Our Beginning
Our story began on May 22, 1961, when ten educators from the Oswego City School District came together to form a financial cooperative rooted in trust, service, and the belief in people helping people.
Our original charter document is posted below in honor of our founders: Donald Goewey, Frances Marion Brown, Lois O’Grady, Robert Gaebler, Nunzio Spiridigliozzi, Merrick Owen, Muriel Perry, Cleopha Casey, Agatha Payne, and Cherie Kessler.
Our Early Years & Growth
We started in a home at 135 W. Seneca St. in Oswego, where for seven years we focused on helping teachers save and providing loans to support them through the summer months. Back then, we made $25 loans to our teachers to help them get through the summer months in which they didn’t receive a paycheck. In 1968, we moved to our first building at the corner of West Seneca and Liberty Street in Oswego, later relocating to 113 W. Albany St. in 1990. Today, we proudly serve our members from our home at 90 W. Utica St., offering greater space and accessibility.
Expanding Our Membership
As our community grew, so did we. In 1973, we expanded membership to include the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown and Central Square School Districts, along with Oswego County BOCES. In 1979, we welcomed the Sandy Creek, Mexico, and Pulaski School Districts, followed by the Hannibal School District. We’ve also expanded to serve families, retirees, and community organizations such as the Oswego Players.
Our Mission Today
65 years later, our mission remains the same: to provide personalized financial services with integrity, care, and a continued commitment to the people we serve. We believe in education as the bedrock of any community. We stand with our local educators, growing Together.
